Viola, Clarinet, and Piano Trio

JOHN ALEXANDER MADISON received his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Viola Performance from The University of Michigan and is currently the Principal Violist of The Detroit Opera orchestra and performs regularly with The Detroit Symphony and the Sphinx Symphony orchestras. He is a founding member of New Verse Chamber Ensemble and The Cassini Ensemble and performs chamber music as a guest with various chamber ensembles around the country. John won a “Grammy” for performing on Victoria Monet’s Best R&B album for 2023.  John has performed as soloist with the Detroit Symphony, Toledo Symphony, Jackson Symphony, Grosse Pointe Symphony, Ypsilanti Symphony  and Southfield Symphony and has performed as guest with The New York City Opera and toured the United States with the Paris Chamber Orchestra. As an educator, John has taught at Sienna Heights College, University of Michigan, served as Dean of the Sphinx Preparatory Music program, and is currently on faculty at Wayne State University.  John’s latest recording project “Of Time and Love”, music for contralto, viola and piano, was recently released on Centaur records.

DR. KATHRYN GOODSON, international pianist, teacher and coach, has served at the Musikhochschule in Freiburg and Karlsruhe, the Conservatoire de Genève and for many years at The University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance, where her signature class is Songs4Winds. Goodson has performed with ensembles including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in Carnegie Hall and has performed recitals & recorded with artists throughout Europe, the U.S. and Japan. Her passion for community engagement led to serving as founding pianist for the Ann Arbor Symphony Kinderconcerts for two decades. Finally, she is founder and director of Concert4aCause and Morning Music @ 929 at Northside Community Church, A2 and of Chamber Music & Dance with a View at U-M SMTD.
